new york…

April 20, 2011

back in new york only for briefly… was bummed to see it all cold and gray yesterday but today was a big improvement… and going through the immigration took more than an hour… seriously that might have been the longest i’ve ever had to wait… now i’m staying at my friend’s place in clinton hill and already discovered 2 nice spots… one is called urban vintage on grand avenue which has a very good coffee and friendly woman behind the counter… she had a very distinctive laughter… and they didn’t play any music which was exactly what i wanted…! then just around the corner there’s this place called choice market on lafayette had nice looking food… think will go there for tomorrow breakfast/lunch… i ended up going to hampton chutney today for lunch after going to the apple store in soho and it was still good… so glad their food didn’t go downhill… so many places to check out in such a short time…!

Well, alright, I’ll just write this down as if I would be sending an e-mail to somebody fully knowing they’d receive it.

Just want to forward this. I missed you all (was it?) 3 times times, here in Sweden. I had no idea about the Stockholm gig, and so I was bummed when I found out that about it a few days later after it had taken place. It’s really weird, but it has happened to me in the past with other gigs– finding out about bands coming to Sweden just a tad too late, and then ending up being bummed out about for a month. But wow, you were really going to Scandinavia a lot this year.

Well, this is really just another meaningless post– but hey, we only live once. I have this tendency to do this sometimes– to forward some 1111 & 0000 worth of warm human love. Just take it for what it is; another dumb person on the Internet, posting another dumb comment on the Internet. :)

I’ve been listening to your music, and I really like it. It’s hard to pin down what it is that speaks to me enough for me to get sucked into the sonic universe of it, but there’s a connection. I think John Zorn’s Femina, and also Dictée, made me appreciate your style a lot more. Zorn is the master when it comes to picking the musicians, and you were perfect for those 2 incredible albums. I also like the Korean spoken words on Dictée– I think you possess a cool, energetic voice.

I guess I’ve always wondered what a Cello would sound like if approached as if possessed by a spirit of some kind. It’s interesting, because the improv stuff is, well obviously, abstract to me, and I don’t really know what to make of it. But throughout your works, there’s the ambiance in combination with the sonic weather of warmth and coldness, and the nuanced textures, etc. etc. There’s this humanity to it, that I think you somehow manage to add to, whatever magic powers you’re using– I think that really drew me in, in the first place.

I’ve read both your blogs, and I think you seem like an imaginative, warm-hearted person. All those far out old-school movies, and all the great true appreciation you possess for great work– it seems you are quite a character; another addition to modern history.

It’s amazing, and also crazy, what we take for granted– just being, existing and taking in the air, knowing we are alive and aware that we are alive. I mean, in a way, I think that is what some of your musical works say to me. I think it’s all there, like exploring the different geographical fields of this planet, and walking through darkness and murk only to get to the breezy and sunny afternoon of a park with a river reflecting it all. Music only a person with a sense of beautiful humanity could conceive.

You’ve been a help to me in my quest for getting out of the ghetto of which many hearts are confined, and so I push to get of it. Other alternatives is the remedy for those who have been ocularly deprived– to awaken and use our true senses is the road to true humanity. I think you’ve contributed to it.

That is kind of what I wanted to forward. I had to shorten some of it, because I was scared perhaps my emotional side was getting of control.

    Thank you.

    • oh, dear, where can i start… thanks for such a lovely comment… sorry it took me a bit to see your comment but i haven’t been on top of my blog for a while… vacation time…!
glad you got something out of what i do… it’s always a nice surprise to hear that someone felt something through what i do… guess that’s one of the main reasons why we do music… to communicate through non-verbally but through emotions and common experience on this earth…
will be in göteborg at the end of november… but also will be most likely to tour sometime in april next year… so who knows, if you happen to find out before i get there, maybe we’ll get to say hi in person…!
      have a great weekend…!
